The prophecy vs. fate, or vs. self-fulfilling prophecy, was one of my issues before I started studying Bible history.

Fate & Bible Prophecies-what do you think?
by DisconnectingDrone injw's are taught that there is no fate-if fate existed no one would be responsible for what they did?
however, i always thought their explanation of jehovah selectively looking into the future was fuzzy.
take the prophecy of cyrus conquering babylon and freeing the israelites back home.

how many wanted to just run away?...disappear?....after....
by oompa in....waking up to the real truth about the truth?......when it first really hit me like a shovel in the face.....i actually said to the co i would have to leave my wife and son (not hers)) and he is now 20 (not the co..my son), and i said it because i knew i would now never measure up to the "spiritual head" model.
cause i knew it was all bs...but have not really ran away yet....at least not for more than a week at a time.........doing better actually.......but did you want to at least move or something?

I almost did.
I applied for a job that would have me travelling cross-country (tech installation job...pretty good actually) but didn't get hired. Not long after, I got a better local job and was able to move out on my own. Being able to live this double life on my own terms (no more service) has made it easier. But not easy. -

It helps me a lot, reading this forum.
When you know you are different from everyone else, but cannot explain why....it is very lonely. -

"Jehovahs Witness dot com was *not* mentioned from the platform. That is one of the comments that bonafide added in."
It was mentioned in another thread by a couple people that yes, JWD was called out by name at a NY convention, and it was in the same context as bonafide recorded...which I find exceptionally odd. I have found a couple forums where 'for real' JDubs talk to people about issues, and answer questions. In my (albeit short) time here, this seems more of an ex-JW forum....calling this place out by name seems more like name-dropping for potentially curious JW's. -

Best JW tall story/variations of it?
by KW13 indont just list one, list them all so we can laugh because in all honesty i can't believe we believed some of them.
for example, i was told annie lennox stopped a concert to ask if there was any jw's in the audience, and if there was could they leave as they were stopping the demons getting through...is this even remotely true?
did annie lennox ask the jw's in the audience to move because they were stopping the snack lady getting through...and it got twisted through chinese whispers.... the other day (i felt sick) one witness was banging on about how amazing it was that the watchtower society's building was the only one standing still...wtf...my stepdad responded with a 'wow thats amazing' and the first brother was like 'yeah i know'...grrrrrrrrr aaaaaaaah screaaaaaaaaam .

I can understand that so well. My life would be so much easier.

I think my JW mom just itches to celebrate birthdays. I guarantee she doesn't forget one.
Actually, once she let me go to a b-day party as a kid, a woman who was studying still had the party for her son, just didn't call it a birthday party! Presents and all, haha. -

Well, even though I've always "followed party lines", as it were, even as a kid I never really felt like I had faith. When someone would express their love for Jehovah, or otherwise talk about how much they enjoyed this or that WTS publication or event, it always rang hollow to me and I did not understand it. I wondered at what point I would start enjoying meetings and conventions like everyone else said they did.
Several years ago, during a book study with one of the publications heavy on prophesy (maybe the first Daniel book), I was having a hard time believing this stuff and I thought it really sounded contrived, and I had a revelation of my own. I thought to myself - " Wow...this is a really effective system of control they've got."
